Handbuilding in Clay: From Basics to Your Own Project

Handbuilding in Clay is a two-session class that gives you strong foundations and the confidence to make something of your own.

In the first session, you’ll learn the core skills for shaping clay, joining parts securely, and building stable, kiln-ready forms — the practical knowledge you need to turn an idea into a real object.

In the second session, you’ll return with your own ideas and develop a personal project with clear, supportive guidance from an experienced teacher.

This class is for anyone who wants to explore handbuilding in more depth and finish a piece of their own design.

No previous experience is needed. All materials and tools included.

All students on our multi-session courses also receive free check-ins during the period of the course.

    • Choose glazing service, glazing class or no glaze to finish your pieces:

      • glazing service: each student can choose to have one piece glazed and fired by our staff. Further pieces cost €10/piece.

      • glazing class: all students in this class receive a code for 50% off our Flexible Glazing classes. Use this to join a class and learn how to glaze your pieces yourself

      • no glaze: if you would like to have your pieces only fired once, so you can glaze them yourself at a later date

    • 2 sessions of 2.5hrs each

    • First session focuses on developing core skills used for all handbuilding projects

    • Second session come back with your very own project in mind and build your work with guidance from our experienced teacher

  • This class does not require any previous knowledge and is suitable for beginners and intermediates.

  • 120€ (incl MwSt.)

    • All students on multi-session classes receive free studio check-ins for independent practice

    • check-ins are valid throughout your course period. Validity ends on the last day of your course.

    • The number of free check-ins is equal to the number of sessions of your course.

    • Available during all open studio hours except Sundays

    • An onboarding tour is required before your first independent session (and can be completed before your course begins). Onboarding tours can be booked here.

    • Standard studio firing fees and firing times apply to work made outside of class.
