Start with a simple coil-built vessel and give it a personality of its own! In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to build a vessel using traditional coiling techniques and transform it into an imaginative sculptural object. Experiment with shapes, faces, exaggerated features and unusual details to create something that sits somewhere between a functional vessel and a characterful sculpture.

Luca Maio, founder of Argilleria, is an Italian artist with a background in illustration and tattooing. His work draws inspiration from vintage cartoons, imaginary creatures and found forms, bringing them together through a distinctive visual language and narrative. Working primarily with handbuilding techniques, he creates expressive, caricature-like figures with dramatic expressions and delicate details, that are between functional objects and sculptures.

With Luca, you'll build a small vessel from coils before bringing it to life through sculptural additions and carefully considered details. You'll explore how to incorporate facial features, exaggerate proportions and develop your own individual character. The workshop offers an opportunity to experiment with form and expression, discovering how a simple ceramic vessel can become something much more personal and unexpected.

The workshop is 3 hours long. No previous experience is needed. Firing for 1 piece is included.
